150 words exactly

Be prepared-“The Boys Scouts of Americas” motto.  I twisted the small stick together back and forth in between my two sore palms. The cold wind bit through the small Boy Scout campsite. The moon was high in the sky, five minutes until bed. I craved to start a fire with my own two hands; and not manufactured equipment, in fact, it had been one of my biggest dreams at the time. My hand had endured over an hour of constant motion. They cried out in pain for me to stop, but I ignored them. My predecessors had given up on the activity and now were enjoying a mouth-watering pudding pie. I had used stick after stick and strategy after strategy to ignite the leaves. A wisp of smoke rose from the leaves. I smiled. From then, to my stride to Eagle rank now this is my proudest moment.

video game volence, what is it all about?

Thesis Proposal

Every day after school I would plop myself down in front of the TV and play my favorite stress releasing activity, video games. Recently they have come under attack, saying many bad things about them. Videogames do not hurt our youth. Many people don’t know that video games actually can improve a person’s life. I will persuade you in a well written essay, filled with hard faces that video games are not evil, like everyone makes them out to be. I will defend this thesis: Video games have been said to be too violent and cause too many negative effects, but people never talk about the many positives that weigh out the negatives. Video games can improve people’s lives.

A video game behind much controversy is a game called “Grand Theft Auto 4”. This game sold 35 million copies and made over two billion dollars. In Alabama three men were killed, two of them police officers.  These men were killed by a young boy named Devin More, who had played this game for hours on end after its release. The game allows you to basically do anything you want, and encourages the player to commit violent acts. A local lawyer, Attorney Jack Thompson who brought the lawsuit said, “What we are saying is that Devin More was, in effect trained to do what he did. He was given a murder simulator” (Bradley).  Devin bought the game as a minor, against the rating for age on the game. His victims were Ace Mealer a 911 dispatcher, James Crump and Arnold Strickland, both police officers. Young Devin had no previous criminal actions in his past, so he was the last person you would ever think to commit such a violent act. Devin was taken into the police station by Ace Mealor for suspicion of stealing a motor vehicle. While at the station Devin jumped on Ace, grabbed his gun and shot the police officer.  He then walked down the hall and shot the 911 dispatcher James Crumpt and proceeded to steal a police cruiser. When captured Devin said, “Life is like a video game. Everybody’s got to die sometime” (Bradley).  Local reporter Ed Bradly asked “Can a video game train someone to kill” (Bradley)?  A local psychologist David Walsh said that video game violence effects teens more than everyone else because teen’s brains are different than others. There are certain parts of the brain that are still under development including the decision making part, the prefrontal cortex (Ed Bradley). Was Devin’s decision to kill these people caused by the video game he had played?
Video games have been seen as too violent and they have been said to hurt the children who play them, but no one bothers to look at the benefits of video games. Video games can improve people’s lives.
Video games were developed a long time ago, intended to be a tool of fun and enjoyment. Unfortunately as the video game industry advanced more and more, so did the video game violence they developed. Playing violent video games has been said to increase a person’s violent behaviors and acts. There have been many studies conducted to test if these playful tools do cause a person to become more aggressive. As people began to think more about the negative effects of video games, so did the thought that video games could actually help a person. Like the negative effects of video games, the positive effects began being tested. To most peoples surprise video games did indeed have positive effects on its players. Another surprise was that parents were still buying the violent games for kids.
Video games made their first showing around 1970 (Kooijmans). A man named Doules came up with the first graphical computer game, “Tic Tac Toe”. William Higin Bothan developed the first video game “Tennis for two”. At the National Laboratory Oscilloscope in 1960, Steve Russell came up with “Space War” the first computer game. The next step up was when Nolan Bushnell and Ted Dabhet invented the well known game of “Pong”. Later that year the same two men came up with the first home consol. It was called the Odyssey. It was programmed with twelve different games a player could enjoy with the whole family (Bellis). As the game industry grew, a hidden evil was also growing; the evil was the violence that these games produce.
In 1976 a company called Exide released a violent video game named “Death Race”. During the game the player would drive around in a vehicle and hit gremlins that were on the road. Because the graphics in the game were so primitive, there was only an occasional debate over it, but video game graphics began improving and with it came more realistic violence (Paprocki). In 1990 a game called “Mortal Kombat” was released. This game consisted of actors fighting one on one, with extreme amounts of gore. The game also let the player kill his opponent at the end of the fight. Parents began erupting with anger at such violence being shown in a video game, so Congress decided to hold a hearing. They demanded that the makers of the game must the violence or the game would be pulled from stores; so the game makers complied. Because of such violence being released, the first rating system for video games was created (Paprocki). Along with the rating system, a board was created; the ESRB (Entertainment Software Rating Board). Gaming companies would pay the ESRB to appropriately rate there games to ensure that their game would not be pulled from store shelves (Paprocki). In 1998 the most controversial game series would begin, “Grand Theft Auto” (Paprocki).
The game had various missions that consisted of murder, robbery and illegal drugs. It was released on many systems including the Segar Dreamcast. When the next game of the series, “Gta San Andrea” was released parents and Congress were furious. The game was more realistic than its predecessors because it was at a street level point of view, and it allowed players to murder and steal anything. The game was banned from certain countries because of the violence (Paprocki). The controversy was even more ignited when a hacker found a hidden sex sequence within the game and released it to the public. The public turned their anger toward the ESRB for not rating the game adult only rating. The ESRB claimed since the sex sequence was not part of normal game play, they had never seen it. Instead of changing the rating of the game to adult only, The company who had created the game, Rockstar Games pulled all of the copies of “Gta San Andreas” off of store shelves. They then deleted the sex sequence from the game, and it was put back on store selves later that year. The game company would go on to release a number of games in the “Grand Theft Auto” series (Paprocki).
With such controversy behind the violence within video games, people began wondering what effects it had on the children who played these games. A few years ago a study was conducted at a college, were students volunteered to participate. The study was about the student’s video game usage, and how much aggression did they feel after playing them. The studies showed that if the students had played violent video games, they would act out in more violent ways then normal (Holmes)
A second study was done that looked at the effects of actual video game violence. “Subjects were college students who played either a violent video game “Wolfensten 3-D” or a non-violent game “Myst”” (Holmes). These games had been chosen in the study because they differed only in the degree of violence in the game. After the students had played the game they took some tests and participated in a “competitive reaction time task”, where they were told that they were playing against another student. They were also told that they could blast the other students with a noise if they won, and that they could vary the intensity and duration of the blast. Students in both groups blasted their opponent longer and louder following the trials when they had lost and their opponent had just blasted them. Students who had played “Wolfenstein 3-D” blasted their opponents longer and louder on such trials then students who had played “Myst”. Female students blasted their opponents longer and louder on all trials than male students. The results were published in 2000 and they showed that playing violent video games can increase a person’s aggressive thoughts, feeling and behavior (Holmes).
Another survey was given to students ages 14-19 of Rockport High School, titled “Violent Video Games”. The students answered ten questions anonymously and were told to answer truthfully. The surveys showed that the students had a higher level of aggression after playing a violent video game, most students owned more violent than non-violent video games, and that they lied to their parents about the amount of violence in the video game so that the parents would buy the game for the kids.(Mortillaro, Violent….)
So, does violence in video games have a negative effect on its players? The answer is yes it does. Video game violence can cause a user’s aggression level to increase and sometimes cause them to act out in very aggressive ways, which can end up hurting innocent people. But do video games cause all negative effects, or are there some positive ones?
Video games have been said to be anti-social, very violent and just overall bad for you, and those people are right, but only if the player plays for many hours a day. If they play like this the negative effects of video games will show; but if they play for a reasonable amount of time, the positive effects will show. Most people nowadays would rather play a video game or watch T.V with their free time, and some will watch T.V because they think video games are bad for you; but playing video game is actually better for you than watching T.V. By playing a game you are stimulating your brain, but watching T.V causes much less stimulation of the brain (Oak).
Playing video games also improves a person’s problem solving, planning and estimation skills. During video games you sometimes have to make many decisions, like when to use what and how to use different items. By doing these things the player’s “analytical estimation, resource management and quick diction making skills improve” (oak).
There are also many kids around the world that have an inferiority complex disorder (lack of self control). These children have been proven to benefit from playing video games. They also can be used as therapy for people with mental disorders. The patients with the mental disorders gain a sense of participation and achievement from playing video games, thus helping there disorders. They also gain self control from the games (oak).
A study was conducted by a man named Butch Rosser about how well surgeons preformed if they had played video games. The results showed an amazing thing, that surgeons who had played video games operated better than those who hadn’t plated video games (Oak).
Another survey was conducted in Gloucester Ma on March 11 2010; it was to see how aware parents were in the games their children played. The survey titled “Are Parents aware”, asked the parents to play one of their children’s games and report back how violent it was.  The results showed that parents thought that most of their children’s games were way more violent than the parents first thought. One parent left a comment on the survey saying “I can’t believe I bought this game for my child, I played it for ten minutes, and I was shocked to see all of the blood and carnage and the strong language with in it.”  Another comment said “I asked my son if the game was violent before I bought it for him, and he claimed it wasn’t, so I bought it for him, and now I find out he lied to me. This game is very violent”(Mortillaro, “Are…”).
Parents all around the world have been blaming the video game creators for the violent games they have been releasing, but is it really their fault? Many kids are getting these games from their own parents! A Facebook user (who asked to remain anonymous), when asked about the topic said “Why would you buy a game that violent for your kids, and then complain the game is too violent” (Dell Mart)? Parents are complaining that their kids are playing violent video games, but they should be blaming themselves. They should talk to their kids about these topics of violence, but they don’t. You lie to your kids constantly about Santa and the tooth fairy, things that you don’t think is a big deal, but it is to them. This will create a barrier between you, and your child will never come to you and ask about the violence in the video games they see, then when you ask them if the game they want is violent, they will think it’s not a big deal and lie right back to you (Rujinx Ero).
There are cases, like the one with Devin Moore that people go on a rampage after playing a violent videogame and end up killing innocent people. Most of the people that do these things have some sort of a mental disorder. These are the people who should be kept away from violent video games, but not the mentally stable people. Parents seem to want to get rid of all the violent video games, but that’s not the solution. The solution is for the parents to watch how their children act and behave and then decide if their children can handle playing these violent games, and parents will find most people can handle playing them.
Video games have been seen as too violent, and they have been said to hurt the children who play them, but no one bothers to look at the benefits of video games. Video games can improve people’s lives.

Video games have been around for a very long time. There has been much controversy carried with them through the years about many different things, but no matter what they are said to do or cause; video games will never go away.

CAMP TL. STORER

                                     CAMP TL. STORER
I woke to the piney, wooden scent of the New Hampshire woods filling my bug-infested tent, at camp T.L.Storer, My mind buzzing in excitement. Today was the most anticipated day of the entire week, a day everyone, including my Boy Scout troop, troop 60 was looked forward to, a day that put all others to shame. Today was the camp wide games. A day of sportsmanship, a day of prizes and a day of fun. A day that ended with delicious cold ice cream that relieved the constant betting of the scorching sun upon your face. However, as anticipating as this day was, a dark shroud loomed over all of us ominously. We all had experienced the life being sucked away from each and every day of that week by the unforgiving rain, and we dreaded the same fate for this one; and after paying our hard earned $300 per person, we needed a sunny day to contain our sanity.  Nevertheless, we were optimistic, I mean really, what are the chances that it would rain for a week straight?
The morning went by sluggishly, despite the anticipated day’s excitement. The firm, spring mattresses dug into our spines providing an uncomfortable night of sleep and waking.
After, we managed our way, slowly down toward the dining hall, the smell of fresh taste bud tingling bacon and eggs began to wisp all around us; quickening our pace. The trees had produced lush, vast array of beautiful green that was pleasing to the eye from the previously days,  seemingly endless down pour of water. It felt as if god himself had opened up the sky and emptied out his ginormous bathtub upon us. But today felt different as we walked. The sky was warm and inviting, birds sang while perched upon trees and the air felt soft our skin.
The breakfast was as a good as the smell had advertized. Fluffy scrambled eggs, crunchy greasy bacon, and a tall glass of refreshing, filling orange juice. Just about everything, you craved in a breakfast. After the rush of people for seconds had subsided and the announcements had read in a most amusing way, we were off to our first period classes where we would earn merit badges, which help us ascend the escalator closer to the main goal of scouting, the rank of eagle.
We had finished our classes when it happened. A dark mass of clouds had moved in, bringing with it a cold, thrashing wind. The pitch-black clouds towered over us like a giant to an ant, creating a spark of nerves amongst all of us. An ear piercing alarm shot through the air, as we all had expected from experience. It seemed like day had turned to night as the clouds overlapped the sun. A cold shiver shot through my spine. All the expectations of the day had disappeared in a flash. My heart sank.
The downpour of rain had begun before we had made it within the hall, drenching our cloths. The wind lashed the water against the netting windows, coating the hall in a layer of slippery water. A loud blast of lightning crack loudly in the sky, lightning it for a brief moment; reminding us all of what we had lost.  I had never experienced such a storm at camp before, and it did more to us then ruined my day.
Not many have experience the essence of terror, but I have. The weather forecast seemed unreal as it rang numbly though the ears. My skin tingled, and my throat felt dry.  Everything seemed to blur for the slightest of a second. A tornado was approaching our camp. My first instinct was to run, but I was informed we must say within the hall. The rain seemed to created a brick wall surrounding our prison. If anyone had stepped out, the sheer pressure of the rain would have surly shot them to the ground. The counselors tried to keep spirits high with song of fun and amusement, but it only entertained the smaller ones who had been shielded from the news. I, being thirteen was well aware of our predicament we were in and my spirits could not be brightened. Most of the hall stayed quiet, listening to the loud “thud thud thud” of the water clashing hard against the wood of the building. Images of the outdoors were blurred by fierce rain.
I sat wide-awake for many hours hoping, praying for the tornado to leave by our camp be, after such a long time it become my home, and I had began to think of it as my save haven from the dangers of the world, but now that did not seem to be the case.
I had drifted into a tossing, restless sleep upon a hard stools, my mind filled with the terror that loomed just outside the fabrication of my dream. I awoke, although my eyes stayed shut. I searched for the sound of the rain, but there was nothing. I opened my eyes to see a wonderful sight. A sight I thought I would never see again. The sun shined brightly down upon the earth, drying it from its cleansing bath. I looked around to see that happiness had returned to the room. Laughing, singing, games, it was a glorifying sight to see! I had to know what happened to the storm. I searched for my friend and fellow troop 60 member jessie to ask what had happened.
“The storm has passed over us.”He laughed.
His words lifted my heart from the depths of my chest. I could not believe it. I bolted outside, ignoring the councilors warning; Jessie not far behind. The ground was squishy and layered with  a sticky mud, but I didn’t care. The air smelled of freshness as it drifted through my body. It seemed as if the air had been cleansed by the rain. I laughed. It was as if God had gave his child a bath, riding  away all of its filth from the day. Now that I was safe from the dangerous of the storm, it seemed amusing to me. Something so innocent as a bath had caused so much terror within us all. I laughed aloud again.
Jessie and I walked pompously down toward the waterfront. We felt like we had been through a long and tiring war and had come out on top. We could not be stopped! We felt invincible. If we could survive a tornado, we could survive anything else mother nature could throw at us, but Mother Nature was not finished, not by a long shot. She still had one sneak attack left stashed away in her bag of tricks.
An enormous lightning bolt struck the ground not too far from our location. It sounded as if the sky had exploded into a million bit and pieces. We moved quickly toward the location of the strike. We were completely taken back by what we found, or rather, what we hadn’t found. For many years, a large tree had shaded the waterfront swimmers from the unforgiving sun, but now it was gone. All that remained was a bulky, sappy tree trunk. It was like it had vanished, like magician making of his fair assistance vanish.
Although we had missed, the most anticipated event of the week and it had rained almost every day and every hour, Jessie and I both agree; it was the coolest thing we had ever experienced!

SUB IN OR SUB OUT

ok during this segment i will be reviewing what i think of youtubers and which ones are right for you, i will also be informing you who to un subscribe to.
Many youtubers have one hits wonders , granting them millions on subscriptions and views. all of these youtubers usually never put up another video and are getting benefits from your subscription for doing nothing at all, i just think thats wrong.
The first recommendation  i have for you is JamesNintendoNerd. This youtuber is for all of you die hard video game fans who never had a chance to play the ancient games of the past. He reviews almost all the worst games in a very amusing way, and he also can save you a few dollars for those of you still buying games for the N.E.S and systems like that. His original videos are much funnier then his newest ones, which i think has to do with the fact that before he had his contracts with big names he had something to work for. but even with the decreased quality of the content within his videos i still advise you, if you haven't already to subscribe to him and listen to his amusing views.
The first sub out i would recommend to you is  lilhagan. His first big hitting video that started his youtube career was http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lgw2slDfx9Q , jacob get off the xbox which is basically him tormenting his little brother, forcing him to shut down his game and then saying he was joking. while this is somewhat funny it didnt really represent his true potential at videos , which is on a much lower level. Besides the few other similar videos of him tormenting his little brother, he hasn't produced a decent video in almost a year; probably due to the fact that either his brother is getting older and not falling for his pranks , or that his parents have confronted him about embarrassing his younger brother online. which ever the reason , he has definitely lost his stuff and until he gets it back, i would definitely recommend to sub out.

Avatar the last air bender the movie

The last air bender was once a long and prosperous Nickelodeon cartoon series that had a long list of followers, i myself was able to watch the whole series and i found that it was probably the best show within the network What drew me and so many other people into watching the series rather then the other shows was the compelling story line and deep characterization development. which was more shown off in this series then others on the net work. Basically it was one of nick's best ruining shows even after its end; so you'd think that they would want the movie to be especially good, to draw in a new crowd to watching ...you would think that, but its completely false. The movie was absolutely horrible that shams the the entire series.

The avatar the last air bender movie was one of the most anticipating movie of the year, which probably disappointed millions of fans of the series. But if you had never scene the cartoon series it was a well put together movie. The special effects of the movie were amazing thankfully; and with the amazing fight scenes it really warped together to be a very good action movie, the only part of the fighting that didn't put it over the bar was that the fight scenes themselves were relatively short compared to what they could have been. It seemed like after two moves it would be over. Unfortunately this was all i could say that was positive about the movie.

The acting itself was absolutely horrible for almost all of the actors. They did seem like they were at the loosing end of deadly war with the fire nation, it seemed like i could tell they were acting. There really wasn't one actor that seemed to pull it off. Another thing that really bothered me was the names of each character. they seemed to mess up the pronunciation of 2 out of 4 characters or objects, like the main characters name, i mean how hard is it to watch the actual series and learn how to pronounce the names i mean really.

If you were to compare the movie to the series on TV, you would be really surprised of how much they left out. They did not even mention one of the most important concepts, the avatar state, which is used a lot during the move and if you hadn't previously seen the cartoon series you would have had no idea why the heck he was glowing and floating, It seems like this for a lot of other concepts too, an example is when Zhao mentions the secret library, you would have no idea what the heck that is unless you watched the show, i mean how hard is it to mention a little explanation.

I also feel that the way the most of the information about each of the characters is revealed, is given out in a very awkward and not how a normal person would talk about it. there is a couple more bad views i would like to talk about , like how when zuko's ship is blown up while he was in it , he seems to come out without a scratch, but i won't get into it.
I think overall if you were a big fan of the cartoon series you would not enjoy the movie , a fan would be probably piking it apart the entire time like i was, but if you didn't see the series i would go see it, you would enjoy it.  I think the one thing that makes this movie really good was the action and you will enjoy it too.

I GIVE THIS Movie A 3 OUT OF 5
